Our Beech Class teaching team

We look forward to welcoming you and your child to Beech Reception class!

We are a curious and hard-working class who always strive to give of our best! Here on our class page, you will find out about a day in the life of a Reception child at Mrs Bland’s, as well as the topics we will cover throughout the year.

During the day we have opportunities to learn inside and outside the classroom. We use our topics and the children's interests to help plan a wide range of exciting and engaging learning opportunities and provision across the different curriculum areas.

Our learning is based around a theme with stories and rhymes which link to the topic.  The topics are spread over the course of the year, one each half-term, giving plenty of opportunity to have fantastic fun exploring, discovering and creating! Our topics this year are planned as follows:

Our topics are

Autumn 1 - Marvellous me

Autumn 2 - Let's celebrate

Spring 1 - Once upon a time

Spring 2 - Things that grow

Summer 1 - Journeys and Quests

Summer 2 - Oceans and Seas.

Throughout the year, educational visits and experiences are planned in which provide a real buzz for learning! During the Reception year, the children will visit Rushall Farm, go a local bus journey to the miniature railway and go to Mudeford beach for the day. All this learning is then brought back and applied into the children’s learning and work.

In Reception, the children have daily phonics, maths and literacy teaching. We love learning through stories and enjoy retelling learnt stories, making up our own stories and pretending to be different characters through role play. This helps us develop new vocabulary, sequence events, work together in small groups, share and many other skills.

In addition to all the wonderful learning inside the classroom, we also have lots of other varied and active learning opportunities:

  • Wednesday morning is outdoor PE with Danny
  • Friday morning is indoor PE (Gym, Dance)
  • We have Outdoor learning on a Friday afternoon

Please remember to bring:

  • A water bottle, book bag and PE kit in school every day.
  • Coats, hats and gloves are needed when the weather is wet or cold and hats and sun cream in the Summer. We go outside every day whatever the weather!
  • A pair of wellies that stay in school, to be used when the area is wet or muddy but also so they can access our water pump and water tray areas.

Thank you
