We are looking forward to welcoming you and your child to Acorns Nursery!

Acorns is our readiness for school nursery. Starting school is a big step for both you and your child, and we will work closely with you to help your child to support this transition, ensuring that children are well-prepared for their next stage of learning.

In Acorns, the children will be participating in whole class and small group work in order that they build secure foundations in all of the curriculum. During their independent learning, a wide variety of engaging and exciting learning opportunities are provided for the children, which take place both in and out of doors. In Acorns, children are encouraged to explore their own interests and lines of enquiry while developing their skills, knowledge and self-confidence.

Our learning is based around a theme with stories and rhymes which link to the topic.  The topics are spread over the course of the year, one each half-term, giving plenty of opportunity to have fantastic fun exploring, discovering and creating! Our topics this year are planned as follows:

Autumn Term 1- Why do you love me so much?

Autumn 2- Why are leaves crispy?

Spring 1- How does that building stay up?

Spring 2- Are eggs alive?

Summer 1- Why do spiders catch flies?

Summer 2 – How many colours in a rainbow?

 

 

 

 

Our Daily and Weekly Routines:

We start every session with a welcome circle. This is a lovely calm way to start the day and ensures the children feel an immediate sense of belonging. The welcome circle also gives the children the opportunity to find out what is on offer to them within the learning environment, whilst providing them with a time to plan their play.

Throughout the week, we are very busy and active…

We have outdoor learning on a Thursday where your child can wear their own clothes (that you don’t mind getting muddy!)

We also have outdoor PE with Danny on a Wednesday morning and indoor PE on a Monday afternoon and Friday morning.

Please Remember to bring:

•  a water bottle filled with water every day. The children are given a piece of fruit or vegetable each morning and afternoon for snack time as part of the Government’s fruit and vegetable scheme, as well as a drink of milk.
• A sunhat or coat (or both if the weather is changeable!) every day as we go outside in all weathers, and spare named underwear, socks and a change of clothes in a named bag in case of accidents.

We very much welcome parent support to help in class by reading with the children or playing group games .  Please do come and speak to us if you would like to come in on a regular basis or as a one-off visit.  You will need to receive a volunteer induction before being able to come into class - this can be arranged through the school office.
